this morning i had to go to maaco autobody to work on his backhoe for the owner well i got half way there and i started smelling fuel real bad..i pull over and its running out of the vapor canister on drivers side, big time..so i find a bolt and pull the one hose off and block it off..ok fixed but now ithe tank is building up so much pressure in it when i take the cap...thing is it runs a ton better now alot more response when getting on it in mid range...im thinking the fuel pump is weak and its trying to draw even harder cause the tank cant vent since i blocked it off...what do you guys think?also is the vent thing on the side of tank bad and now its letting fuel down the vent line into the canister...

I have noticed when tank is full that fuel smell, from expansion of fuel with temp changes....from running the car...
it varies a lot, some days it's bad, others, it's not....I havea convertible...
'72 with the large filler.....I run an extra O ring under the gas cap on that flange...it helps a lot....
make sure the float thingy on the driver's end top of the tank is in place, it's is black plastic about 2" cube....one hose to tank, other to line going forward to canister....there is a check ball float in the plastic thing to stop fuel from entering line....
there is also that 1/4 inch return line....
I was telling pat that i had my whole vacuum canister system disconnected and never had a problem with the exception of over filling once. Can this hurt anything? cause if not he could just try that.
Rather see him fix it properly tho!
