I don't know how much it costs. But, I THINK it's where you get on the Dyno, and tune everything to work exactly with your motor. Dyno tuned carb-hense tunning your carb to your motor for maximum performance. Someone on the forum dyno-tuned there whole motor and spend 500.00$ or something like that. I'd say it's worth the power....You can have all the "go-fast" goodies in the world, but if it's not tuned well. Metro's will be whuppin' up on ya.
I had it done about a month ago. It is worth the money. I got the whole tune-up. Plugs, wires, new mechanical advance w/advance kit and the carb work. Worth the money. I recommend it to anyone. By the by, my carb crapped on me today, although I don't think it was related to the work the Dyno shop did.
As Aaron posted, it's not cheap but it's the next best thing to renting a drag strip. Keep in mind that the tuning for wot power may wind up being less than ideal for normal driving. A savvy tuner will take that into consideration and may make some compromises that will be in your best interests, even though it results in a lower reading. If he thinks your only goal is the highest possible reading for bragging rights, you might wind up with bigger numbers but a slower car. The overall cost will depend a lot on how much time is needed to tune the engine. Keeping in mind that you'll be paying for dyno time also, try to get the tune as close as you can before you hit the rollers.
I don't know how much it cost "sd racer", :jester ,but I spent 521.00, US. It came with documentation that included hp/tq, engine compression, engine vacuum.
sorry sd pacecar..thanx for all the info..wow thats expensive.thats almost a third of what i got my vette for..guess i will be du-ing the tune ur own and learn as u go thing as usual...
I'd be more worried about making as MUCH of a flat broad torque curve as you can. And then just lie about your HP numbers, like everyone else.If you make 400RWLBS@3500 RPM and 300RWHP@6000rpm. Race some one and tell them you make 400 ft-lbs and 375 rwhp...they'll probably believe you. After all, torque wins races.
