Default 69 Corvette Speaker Upgrade

I am planning to upgrade my radio and want to know which speakers can fit in the kick panels which would fit in the kick panels. The installer suggested to get speakers which give 45 watts rms per channel. Not sure which size or manufacturer makes these types of speakers nor do I know how to install new version.
Any help here?

In my '69 I installed a pair of 5"x7" Boston Acoustics speakers which handle the power of my Alpine stereo/CD player quite nicely. I had to fabricate some attaching tabs but that was quite simple to do. Behind the kick panels you wouldn't know there was anything but factory speakers there until you listen to them.

which size did you use 6x9,4x6 or other. Also did you install behind kickpanel?

My error...it was 4"x6" Boston Acoustics speakers I installed, not 5"x7". The kick panels were reinstalled in front of them and looks completely factory...no modifications to the panels at all. Behind the panels is where I mounted the speakers with fabricated tabs.

You mentioned "Infinity Kappa series for sure mine fit perfect in 69". Do you remember the model number and size 4x6 or larger and what the watts RMS were. I am looking for 45 Watts RMS.

Thx

they are the kappa 462.5 I think. Only 20 watts but they handle my 600watt amp. I bought another pair. New kappa 600w 693.9i. I also bought the boom box from ecklers and was surprised how heav duty it was. Plan to put them in there. kick panels 4x6 boom box 6x9

can't wait till I get to that point in my corvette to do list where I'm dealing with the speakers. Will keep watching until that day.

Later, Rog.

I've been restoring her for ten years, it took so long due to health and money, but she's almost done.

Did we ever actually nail down a make/model speaker that fits in the 68/69 kick panels? I see a lot of "I think" etc etc... I wanna KNOW.

I still am indecisive about the speakers base on size and watts rms. My inclination is to go 4x6 but trying to locate the right speaker base on depth from front of speaker to the end of the magnet. Also which speaker can fit in the pocket of the kickpanel. Magnets are larger than the original speakers.

I have looked at these speakers. Can you tell me if you required any alterations to the kickpanel and did the magnet interfer with the pocket for the speaker. Also if you installed behind the kickpanel with out a cut out how did you mount the speakers?

I mounted the speakers on a flat piece of metal on the bottom only. The new kappa's are not as heavy and fit right in. You have plenty of holes with these speakers to chose from. The magnet does not touch any metal. I just finished install my boom box with Kappa 6x9. The system sounds awesome.

The connectors to the boom box? They already had the connectors drilled in the box.
