Default What is this and where does it go?

I am restoring my 76 and I found this floating loose in the bottom of the drivers door. It is not attached to anything and I cant see where it could or should go. The window works perfectly though so I am not too worried.

Any ideas?

If you leave it off, the window will go very slow going up and drop like a rock down.

Mmmm, I think I had better add this to my parts list, it does drop just as you have said and I dont think that it is healthy to leave it as is.

Thanks for the info.

No it's not healthy and you should replace real soon unless you want to be replacing the door glass as well.

Pull the regulator and examine it. You may need a new regulator.

Agree w/ wombvette. My 76 went up slow & would drop like rock, problem no spring. I believe the original motor was riveted in. I replaced w/ new regulator and also replaced rollers.

Hey maybe someone replaced the regulator already and left the broken spring in there?

Well, the window works. This is the first Vette I have ever been in, so I have nothing to compare it to. I was aware that the window went down like a rocket, but I just presumed that they were all like that. So I would now say that it doesent work perfectly, it just "works"

Default Window Spring

How does the Driver's side window (the one in question) work compared to the passenger side. If they both work the same, maybe OK.

Looks like an 'extra' part left in at the factory. If you didn't have one in there, the window wouldn't work too well.

Try looking into the door with the glass down on both sides. I'll bet you can see the regulator spring that way. Power or manual? it'll be right opposite the hand crank if it's manual, as a reference point. Chances are the pasenger side is fine, so it should work normally since it gets a fraction of the use compared to the driver's side. Up and down feel about the same on my manual door glass model. If the door panel is still off, it'll be easy to see where that spring went. Pretty sure you cant get it seperate; that one is definitely broken.
