Spring removal isn't required or necessary - the LCA can be supported with a jack - BE CAREFUL - WRAP A CHAIN OR CABLE AROUND THE SPRING AND FRAME SOMEWHERE TO CONTAIN IT IN THE EVEN SOMETHING UNEVENTFUL HAPPENS AND THE SOB WANTS TO FLY OUT.
PS - works that way with "Regular" shocks - don't know the deal with coil overs.
Compress the spring as much as possible before putting the car up on stands. The vehicle weight will help. I jacked up as far as I could and my buddy sat on the fender then we chained the spring tight. My regular spring compressor did not fit (i found this out after it was up off the ground)
Take the shock off before you put it up as well. It a lot easier to remove when you can reach the top nut.
its the same set up for all C3's from the factory, the shock and spring are separate, they are not coil over shock.
This is what a coil over shock looks like: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/QA1-Ad...Kits,1207.html
Already done and swapped out, thanks. I had to disconnect the upper and take the hub assembly out but thats fine, came off easy enough. Everything is brand new and never been driven so it came apart ok. Reason why I had to change the lower joint was when i put the grease fittign in it snapped off flush. Then I tried to extract it and broke a drill bit which fell inside the joint itself. I had the joint swapped out faster than I could have taken that piece out.
