Hello. I recently saw a 1974 corvette (same year as mine) on ebay. it was a nice car in green with some mods done to it. The one major thing i noticed about it was the addition of c4 corvette seats into it. I really like the look of them and the benefits of a more secure, form fitting seat, and am wondering if it would be possible to add them to my car. Is this possible with my car and have any of you guys done this with your car? I would love to do this but on one condition, no modifications. I dont want to have to modify the car or any part of my seats or tracks to make this work, im kinda hoping the c4 seats will just drop in, of course with their own tracks not the c3 ones. If you guys have any ideas, just let me know!
No, they don't just drop in. The most common way to make them work is by bolting the C3 tracks to the C4 seat. You have to drill new holes in the C4 seat for that. The seats will sit higher than stock and if you're taller than about 5'8" or 5'9" you'll find it uncomfortable.
I'm 5'10" and didn't like it so I modified the C3 tracks and lowered the seats 1.5". Now they're comfortable.

That sounds like i could do that, i would get another set of c3 tracks anyway. Could you explain in more detail about how to do this and what you need to get the job done?
Bolting the C3 tracks to the C4 seats is easy. Just remove the cushions and set the seat onto the C3 tracks and mark the new holes.
Lowering the tracks requires welding. You cut a section out of the tracks and weld them back together.
Alright that sounds easy enough, what parts of the c3 tracks need to be cut and welded, or is it kind of self explanatory and ill figure it out myself?
The way the C4 guys talk about their seats, they say, since the headrest tilts fwd, if your a tall guy, you will find them uncomfortable, even with them installed in a C4. They say if your a short guy, you will probably find them the most comfortable Corvette seat out of all Gens.
If your installing the C4s into a C3, and your a tall guy, you got 2 things working against you; the mounted height and the tilted fwd headrest. These were the 2 reasons why I went to a c5 seat.

Yeah, thanks for all of the info. Like teaeye said does the c5 seat need mods and would the c4 seat fit me 140 lbs and about 6 foot? I have sat in a c4 corvette before, a 1987, and i think it worked fine for me but im just wondering.
Will
Also Teaeye, i dont have any way of putting pics on the forum yet, as i have no photobucket account, but if you send me your email i have some pics of the vette i talked about in my original post i could send you.
The passenger side will apply more to earlier Vettes as the 80-82 driver side floor is made lower to accommodate for the original electric seats.
P.S. I'm 6-1 and 180 lbs.

Ok thanks for your help, i checked out the thread there was some good info on there, once i get my car back ill start making my plan on what im going to do to the seats
