OK here's the deal: 79 chassis with LS3/4l65e swap has just been completed. Goes on the dyno in the morning, the 1 problem I have is that the power steering pump has some clearance issues with the L.F. upper control arm. There is some harshness/rubbing going on-- do I put some spacers on the motor mounts to set engine up? has this been a prob to others who have done this swap? Any ideas or help?
You might have to swap the accessory brackets for the F-body LS1 versions and use a F-body PS pump to get enough clearance. The F-body brackets put the alternator below the PS pump and the PS pump has an integrated fluid resevoir. I know for certain that the F-body accessory arrangement clears the control arms.
You could try searching the LS-swap thread for more ideas but I don't recall hearing of anyone who had control arm clearance problems.
Most C3'ers doing the LS swap use the F-body accessory set-up so the PS pump doesn't hit the control arm. This arrangement sucks, IMHO, since the alternator is buried and if/when you need to get at it, youv'e got a more serious job in front of you. Its what I've got, and have gone through the stages of grief and now accept it for what it is.
If it is the reservoir rubbing, I would look into a remote reservoir set-up $$$. Maybe try Street and Performance, Billet Specialties, or get ahold of Josh (Superpowers) and maybe he can offer you some assistance.
