Default Hesitation when pedal punched...Help

I am the new owner of a '73 BB and I have followed the timing sticky. I am finding that when I punch the gas I get about a 2 sec hesitation before then it takes off. What is causing this? Initial timing is good at 120 and all in at 3000RPM at 360.

Not sure if you have a q-jet, or when the hesitation occurs, but one possibility is the accelerator pump.

Probably momentary lean condition. ( Lean = stumble or hesitation, Rich = lazy throttle )
Give us more infos about your carb : vacuum actuated secondary or double pumper ?

Try advancing the timing 2* until it goes away. Timing marks, cams, dist, ect can be off. So go with seat of the pants dyno. If it pings back it off.

Everything is stock. It is a Q-Jet with the original distributor vacuum advance. Thanks again.

Most likely, the secondary air valve tension is too low. As suggested above, check the pump shot, too. Beyond that, read Lars stickies on Q-jet carbs - there should be no hesitation at all!

Most likely a worn out seal on the accelerator pump in your carb. Other possibilities are that the linkage on your accel. pump is placed in the wrong hole in the pump actuator level or that the spring adjustment on the secondary air valve is set very 'weak' [allowing the air valve to open way too early and cause a bog].
