I was looking to purchase a 69 and found this one. Tell me what you think:
My father bought the corvette in 1973, so he is the second owner. He wanted to save it for me (his son) as a graduation gift if I graduated college. That was when I was 2 years old. The car has literally sat there since 1976. The car has exactly 2295 miles and has not run in 26+ years!!! So as you could imagine… it needs a complete mechanical overhaul. The motor needs to be rebuilt as well as new brakes plus any other mechanical needs that would be necessary to a 33 year old car. The interior is considered to be in good to excellent condition as well as the exterior. The numbers on the motor and the VIN all match (VIN 194379S724134). The original color was white but it was painted black before my father put it away for me. I do not have any pictures available at this time but I am hoping to get some this coming weekend. The estimate to rebuild this car has been set around $7,000. That is to get the car in "good" condition. Of course you could get away with spending less or a whole lot more. Depending on the condition one would want to restore it back to. The only options it has are the T-tops, 4 disc brake, power steering, side exhaust pipes, and the back window comes out. The end!!
He's asking $11,500 for it, which I think is too much. Granted, the car only has 2295 miles on it, but I don't think that makes much of a difference since the originality on it was lost due to the fact that the car was painted. What do the experts (you guys :D ) think?? I will post pics as soon as I figure out how to do it
I think 11 is a little high for that car considering the work that needs to be done. Assuming there is no damage to the car, I would say 7 or 8 would be more appropriate.
How do you know that the story is true? Sounds like a bunch of bull to me. Why would someone paint a four year old car and then store it. It probably has 102000 miles.

I'm a little fuzzy on one thing. Is this YOUR father, trying to sell the car to YOU because you didnt graduate from college? Or is that the story being told by somebody else? If it's your father I guess you are more likely to believe the story! :) MJ
I don't understand the buying from father and looking for a 69 deal? If his pop has one already why look else where and why wouldn't he either give it to him or sell it to him on the easy payment plan? Just curious.
Those are not original side exhaust pipes. There are cutouts for the regular exhaust in the back, which true sidepipe cars don't have. Also I don't know what the two round things are in the side of the console (screws maybe  ), but they are not original. It's a base motor car, judging by the valve covers, and it's missing part of the ignition shielding. Better pics would probably show other items that need correcting.
The fog is lifting.... that must be a story the seller has told you. As 73Ken73 suggests, I would be, um... skeptical about several aspects of the story and probably would not expend the effort to straighten out the details. I would run away from this car and the seller. MJ
And that's why I turned to you guys for help! Thanks so much for all your advice, and I for sure will stay away from this purchase. It's amazing what people can tell about a car from a few fuzzy pictures. Thanks again!! :yesnod:
look at the gas and brake peddle pads and see if it looks like 2k miles also shifter ****, interior ie seats and arm rests.
that should tell you if the milage is correct... but someone tell me Thats alot of drive time for a few short years to rack up over 100k dont ya think?
The exhaust might have been personal preference, the paint... maybe it was in a fender bender... or cracker if ya really think about it... :jester
If the story were true, I would jump on it for $12,000 easily. But pictures say a thousand words. And I am very suspicious that there is more to the story. I hear a different song playing in the background. I would have to see the car in person to validate that story. The exhaust was a dead giveaway. SItting in the conditions in the picture can't do the mechanicals of this car any good. I would say that the car is more likely worth $7000 after a badly needed trip to the self serve car wash. Good Luck! :seeya

I didn't even notice those screws. Possibly a bubba attempt at fixing the center console plate? There certainly is a lot of stuff going on with this car. I would be highly skeptical of the mileage claim. I agree with the others, pass on this one, something is not right here.
