Default 74 hood release problem

I put my hood back on after I removed it to R& R my engine. I gently lowered it to check correct positioning and I'm sure you can figure the rest out...

The hood release opens the passenger side completely.
The driver side opens partially, it is caught by the male hood catch but I cant tell what position it is catching on. I have removed the gromet on the firewall and if I latch the hood can get it to release to my "halfway" point. I have opened other hoods so this is not my first time opening a C3. I have never had this problem and have about 6 hours over two days into it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Default This might help.

Put some tape over the holes in the hood then put some grease or chalk on the male part and lower the hood but don't close it. Make sure the holes and male parts are dead center.

If it partially opens...maybe the wire between left and right side is too long? shorten it one hole...
