Does anyone know of a good source to find electrical connectors / harnesses for a 1980?
I am trying to locate the small cylindrical 3-pin connector that goes to the driver's side door jamb switch. I ordered the new door jamb switch but the old connector has one of the pins broken off. The existing pins do not fit the new door jamb switch either.
I am having a really tough time locating this part. I tried going to Radio Shack to see if I could just replace the pins, but they didn't have anything that size.
Has anyone else had to replace these door jamb switches on a 80 vette? I tried installing the switches to perform some tests and the threads on both switches are not even long enough to pass through the steel and get a nut on the back side.
I'm assuming that is how they are supposed to be installed. I don't see any threads on the inside of the hole suggesting they were stripped, etc.
On my 71' and 78', there is a threaded plate riveted to the door jam and the switch screws into it. Sounds like yours may be striped, but 80' could be different.
yeah, I was afraid that might be the situation. I have the same metal plate riveted to the door jamb on both sides. Unfortunately, no sign of threads in either hole.
Ok. it seems that just re-tapping is out of the question. The threaded switch passes through the hole without interference. Does anyone have a suggestion how to properly insert these switches?
I don't know if I can drill a larger hole and insert some sort of sleeve that would have the proper threaded hole diameter in the center. I wouldn't even know where to find something like that.
The only other option I can think of which I'd rather not do because it seems to be very "bubba-ish" would be to silicone the switches into the holes; hopefully securing them into place yet not making them permanent incase they need to be replaced again.
I know there are a lot of people with more garage time in here than me, so any suggestions are welcomed.
