The '73 and '74 grilles interchange. The only difference is in color, the '73 grilles have chrome leading edges, and '74 grilles are all black....

.....they are exactly the same EXCEPT the '73 grille has a chrome leading edge, whereas the '74's were all black.

Thanks for the post. I'll be ordering the ones for the 74 then. There is a bid difference in price.

Get some chrome paint and coat the leading edges. Very few people would ever notice the difference.

Are you talking about reproduction parts or originals? The repros are all priced about the same IIRC.

BTW- some very late '73s came from the factory with '74 grills installed.

I haven't been online looking at corvette parts lately because I have been away at college, but as of 3 years ago the 73-74 center grill wasn't being reproduced. Has that changed?

I touched up a few "dings" in the chrome on my 73 grills using the chrome paint method as suggested by 7T1vette and you cannot tell the difference unless you are 1" away from them.

All the repros for '74 are plastic - i don't know 'bout the '73 repros. The stock '74 grills are metal.

FYI,

I don't think the center grill is being reproduced; just the sides. I've seen original ctr grills go for $500 on eBay.

I have a '74 and I really want the center grill. I have seen them to go for really high dollars on Ebay, seems ridiculous. I refuse to pay that much for the part. I have also seen some go in the parts section of this forum and are much more reasonable... you just have to be lucky and be the first person that sees it for sale.

Why won't vendors make them, seems like it would be a popular item?

I am not familiar with chrome paint, is it brush on or spray can, model paint. Where can I find it. I apologize to shamby for stealing his thread.

You almost answered your own question.
Spray can or model paint are both available. See a hobby store, auto store, or Home Depot fo rmore info.
