Today got a temp guage to check the one installed in the guage cluster, found out the one in the car was reading about 50* to hot can I use some resitors to correct it or have to to try to find a more accurate sender. Think a couple Radio Shack resitor will work or am I wrong.
Adding a resistor in the green sender wire will lower the gauge reading BUT its possible the reading you dial in will be the only accurate reading you will have. Both side of the temp you dial in could be way off.
You should try to determine if your sender is wrong or the gauge and wiring is causing your problems.
Are you running an OEM sending unit? Zip and Wilcox have sending units that are calibrated/correct for the gauge.
I just replaced the unit (from Zip) and the gauge reads ~25 degrees to low (about 155). About the same as the unit that came out. Are you saying the Zip & Wilcox sells a unit that will acurately read with an OEM gauge no adjustments needed?

Reason: update supplier
Got a new sender from Napa looked the same as OEM, just did not want to have to buy a dozen different senders to find one that was accurate. Maybe I will just change my guages to new ones my oil pres is only one that works right.
That might be an indication its not a gauge problem but a common between all the gauges , possible grounding problem. The entire center gauge cluster( and the wiper switch) is grounded by the center wire terminal of the water temp gauge.
I just installed the sender from Lectric Limited....
Factory gauge/Mechanical
Halfway between 100 and First Mark (180*) / 160*
First mark(180*) / 182-185*
210* / 208*
Pretty close at some points, the factory gauge definetly reads cooler on the low end of the range.... Mechanical is installed in the intake, stock sending unit for the factory gauge is in the driver side head between #1/#3.
That being said, I still run both gauges, I just hide the mechanical gauge up behind the console and pull it out to check it every now and then...
Maybe, Fuel gauge is crazy thuoght it was the sender, clock running slow, you know the temp, amp do not do a thing, oil OK mech sender. will dig into it nextday off will check the ground. I had the inside gutted over the winter
Get a piece of wire and ground it to the battery neg or back of alt and touch to the metal cluster , if things straighten up make sure the 14 black going to the temp gauge is grounded but also make sure the center spade actually grounds to the metal housing. Sometimes an insulating washer is put under the spade and ruins the ground to the cluster.
Wilcox has a pic I'll see if I can find it.
Dang Ernie it took me forever to find this link to the picture, your going to have to show me where the INDEX is to the help section.
Letournour there is NO washer under the 9 oclock stud. http://willcoxcorvette.com/instructi...ions_68-82.jpg

BTDT also.
After getting one of these, no more issues. Not guaranteeing that is your problem but it was for me. Zip part number: M-3519
That the problem I did not take it apart and thought there was not resistor on the back under there my other resistors old and broken on the fuel replaced but did not on the temp. Like I said this week end think I will take it totally apart and take a good look at everything, Belive that is a 90 ohm 5volt had a hard time finding a 5volt last time.
