electrical gurus ... HELP...
i have a '78 with 25k original miles. everything works great. about a month ago i noticed that the brake lights were not working. i checked the fuse and it was blown so i changed it no big deal. about a week later i drove it again and noticed no brake lights again. i replaced the fuse again and stepped on the brakes about 15 times with the engine off and running and they worked everytime. got in it today and now they are not working. when it comes to electrical i'm kinda lost so if anyone can point in a direction to start it would be greatly appreciated..

ok i checked the ground for the tail lights and checked the rear bulbs, found a reveres light that had broke free from the metal base. with a good fuse i tried the turn signals and the right side does not blink and both bulbs are on (front and back). so i turned off the signal and turned on the park lights.. . turned on the right blinker and the tail light goes out and no blinker. could my problem be in the blinker switch in the steering column. anyone have any suggestions???

This sounds like (first thought) you have no ground at the rr light socket.
Get a piece of wire ground 1 end to the neg post on battery and touch the other end to the rr socket bulb casing (like in the pic)and see if the light works.

ok i will try this. in this pic i see a blue brown and black wire, is the black the original ground?

ok the ground to the right rear wasn't making a good connection, so that is fixed and the turn signal blinks now. but i am still popping the brake light fuse. the ground strap to the frame at the right rear is good. any ideas on what to check next? can i jump the wires at the brake light switch by the pedal to see if it is bad? the fuse doesn't blow right away when i replace it. i put a new one in and can pump the brakes a lot of times with no problems. then i go out for a drive and when i come back it is blown..
Its possible the brakes are not what's blowing the fuse ,the fuse feeds other things.
Are we talking about the STOP HAZ fuse , lower left in the box above the INST LPS fuse ?
If so the STOP fuse also feeds the hazard 4 way flashers, horns , seatbelt buzzer-headlight buzzer-ignition key buzzer.
Unplug the seat/HL/key buzzer and the horn relay and see if that stops the fuse from blowing.

hey thanks. i found the buzzer but what does the horn relay look like and where is it at? i see a clear/white square that could be a relay right near the top left corner of the fuse box. it is not attached to the fuse box. is this it?
