Take a narrow chisel or an old screw driver and crush the seal towards the input shaft. Then clean the seal mating surface with brake/carb cleaner or lacquer thinner, apply a small bead of weatherstrip adhesive around the perimeter of the new seal, tap in evenly until flush. Some people recommend putting Vaseline in the spring pocket to retain the spring but I've driven hundreds and never had one pop out. It's important to drive the seal in evenly and not distort the seal housing. Apply a film of trans fluid to the converter hub and reinstall the converter spinning it until it goes home. When the trans. is stabbed, you should have to move the conv. back towards the flex plate about 1/2"-3/4" to mate them up. Start all three conv. bolts before tightening any. BTW, if your car leaked from the front overnight, it's likely not the front seal. If it leaked out the front while running, it likely is.

If you drive the seal with a plastic/rubber mallet, you likely won't need the Vaseline; if you use a steel hammer, you might need it [more 'shock' vibration with steel].

Make sure when you re-install the new seal wet the rubber with tranny fluid, and avoid a dry start, Ron
