Default Binding in Points Distributor?

I have a '70 points type distributor and when I go to turn the distributor gear, I notice that it catches on something. It still turns though. What could be causing this?

Thanks,
Ethan

Am I to assume that the distributor is out of the vehicle? If so, it is likely binding on some damaged tach drive gears. Unscrew the outer brass fitting at the tach drive and remove it and the driven gear. You will probably find a damaged driven gear. If not, dig deeper to see if the drive gear (on the center shaft) is damaged or has debris in it.

If the spring on the points is heavy duty, that could be what you are feeling and that is not a problem

This is what I think it is as well. I'll check the drive gear anyways. Thanks guys!
