Default My clear sight plugs broke off

I've been having flooding issues lately, so I decided to adjust the floats in my Holley carb. I looked at the clear sight plugs but they were very cloudy so I thought I'd just remove them. As soon as I touched them the heads along with the o-rings fell off. I've used these before and never had a problem.

Anyone know what might have caused this?

I had them for awhile until I noticed that they were turing soft. Guess they were reacting with the newer formulated gasolines. I pitched them and went back to the stock brass ones.

Holley recommends the clear plastic sight plugs for temporary use only - they are not intended for permanent installation because they deteriorate and fail. Install the brass plugs after you're used the clear plugs to monitor and set the level.

Take the float bowl off and you can usually push them out from the inside. They get soft and turn to jelly if left exposed to fuel long enough.

I got mine out by using a dental pick after the center broke out and it unscrewed really easily.

I only use them when checking float level.

ABSOLUTE JUNK! a fire hazard waiting to happen! Another fine product from the automotive aftermarket like the "View All" glass body fuel filter. Take this junk off your Vette ASAP!

I removed the bowl and started to drill them out. As soon as the bit grabs a little, they screw right out.

Don't waste any time or effort - just take the bowl off and use a 1/8" pin punch and a small hammer - give the sight glass a quick POP and it will shatter or push right out in an instant.
