I notice that some of you are tickled to death ( I don't blame you. ) when your car finally catches 2nd like a crazy bastard and you chirp then real good. And most of you have a moded motor. But yet my mainly stock L-48 with 235/70/15's could hit second real good and chirp the tires. Is there something weird about that?? Does that mean with my 330HP 355 I'll REALLY be able to light them in 2nd?? :reddevil
I just think it's weird. There's no shift kit in my car. It's got a 3.08 rear. And it WAS NOT fast by ANY MEANS. But, I could always seem to lay a little bit into 2nd shifting at 4,700rpm.
Does your transmission have a shift kit? This could be one possiblity why your car catches tire in 2nd. The 355 will make a difference but it's not going to boil your tires going into 2nd gear.
BTW I'm hoping that on the right day, with some wet black top and a quickshift into 2nd gear.....I just might be able to get the 468 big block to chirp them :D  .
The guys at the tranny shop set my TV cable waaay wrong when I first had the 700-R4 installed. It bucked while shifting gears at very low speeds. A few times on real slick pavement you could get the rear to dance when shifting into third. I have since smoothed that out, but it is very possible to get rubber in second with a mild engine with a shift kit.
my 72 was missing a ball in the valve body. it was too dangerous as it would bang 2nd sending it sideways. Had to take the valve body off and fix it. Shifted properly unil i upped it to 400hp, now it somtimes jumps a lane into 2nd.
Everything was okay in the car when I got it. It's now got a complete poly suspension that I had the frame shop instal. But sadly, On the way home from the frame shop my car ran so poorly and stopped so poorly. But, it handled like a damn dream. The night it got home (thanks to SnowMan) I had the cylinder heads off. So, I never REALL got to drive it when I got it home. I've never really been able to drive the car. But, that's SLOWLY comming to an end. Hopefully with a shift kit my car will bark second. I plan to rebuild the rear with 3.36 and install a 200-4R or a 6L-80E in it next year in Auto-Shop. The good thing is when I do that I can sand blast EVERYTHING and get it looking real good.
