Any rpm that keeps the idle at a good quality level without tendency to stall. Rpm will depend on the cam you have installed, tranny type, and your driving preference. Normal idle rpm will be in the 650-850 rpm range depending on these factors.

My 68 390 horse is an automatic. 650 in drive, 800 rpm's in park and neutral. I believe the 4 speed is 800 in neutral. But like Lars said, it depends on your cam specs where you will get a smooth idle.
