I just installed a new carpet in the rear of my 82 vette and it doesn't make it to the rear storage compartment! After hooking it on the rear bulkhead I smoothed it down and across the rear floor and it is about an inch from the edge of the storage area. So I pulled it off the back wall a little and it just makes it too the flange on the rear compartment but not under it
Do you guys think I should return it or is this a common problem???I glued a few small spots down but nothing that couldn't be pulled up.
Thanks Bill

can you trim it just a bit to get the frame over it to hold it down? I would fit that then work the back wall. I know when I did my 81 it took a little working.
Is it made for your 82?
It sounds like it was cut short. Call the vendor you got it from and see what they say. I wouldn't do anymore gluing or cutting without talking to the supplier.

Yes, its an 82 carpet. I could pull it under the compartment lip but as soon as something is pushed against the back wall it will pull the carpet right out!!!

GB, I think I may have too go that way. I just wanted to see if this is common and if there was a quick fix rather than pulling it and paying to ship it back

Same thing happened to my 81 except it was the pass side front piece that was 1 1/2 inches short where it ran up to the rear of the door jamb. Call ur supplying vendor, they should make it right. Mine did and sent a new entire kit with a UPS label to return the old kit. Me thinks its all foreign made ,poor quality and hit-&-miss more often than not IMHO....for the money you pay, it should fit without tweeking it in ANY way..

I'm pretty sure both Al Knoch & Auto Custom Carpet are still making their carpet sets here. Now for how long that will continue, well.......?
Your also right, it should fit "without tweeking" and from my experience, it usually does.
Any reputable vendor should send a call tag for the carpet. I've found that ACC will often just send a replacement piece, and not want the bad piece bad. It doesn't do them much good to pay the return freight on something they'll just throw out anyway.

However, my vendor wanted the bad piece back-actually the entire kit! I know I look like a crook, but it amazes me how they could tell over the phone????
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
The American Express fraud department lady could tell I was guilty over the phone for using my AE card in Bangkok, Nepal and few other cities even though I don't even have a valid passport. They must be use some kind of lie detector machine on their end
I haven't installed the rear compartment carpet I got from Corvette Central for my '80 yet but I'm getting a bad feeling this stuff is being made where there's more wooden wheels that rubber
Just got off the phone with said vendor and I had to give measurements so they can relay it back to their supplier. I hope they don't want the whole kit back I already glued the kick panels, console side covers, seat backs and I tried to pull the carpet forward enough to meet up with the compartment flange a glued the edge too hold it in place. That's a lot of glue too pull apart...
I'm being respectful too the vendor because I feel he or she needs a chance to make this right even though I have a few hours work down the drain. I do expect them to make this as easy as possible

I had quite the opposite experience with ACC. They ran me through the ringer with me paying return fees and for new shipping. If it is from them, just pony up for new stuff (just the piece you need) and be done with it. Their customer service left a lot to be desired IMHO.

Sorry too hear that Markdtn! Luckly I was call back for a few more details and a new carpet is being shipped today. The supplier does want the old carpet back I guess they want too see their F-up but that's OK, they said they are sending a return label with the new carpet. It better be in there because I'm not paying a dime!!!
I also suggested that they send me a carpet without the hole cut for the rear storage compartment. I doesn't take a brain surgent to cut it out and I know it will be right where I want it!!!
Just a thought if someone who supplies these carpets if they're reading
They didn't waste anytime to send me a return UPS slip. I guess they want their carpet back first before they ship out a new one. I packed it up and then found out UPS no longer has Saturday hoursWTF!!!
Anyway, I'm having a feeling this is gonna take a little longer than I expected
After weeks of going back and forth I finally received my rear carpet WITHOUT the compartments cut out.
They told me my original carpet fit the molding machine and I told them anybody could scretch a carpet too fit a steel stamp/mold but try laying it out in the car and see what happens
I won't bash the vender, he did everything he could but anyone using the supplier Auto Custom Carpets, INC (www.accmats.com) double check everything before trimming or gluing.
They did make it right but it took 4 weeks of the summer with my car sitting in the garage.
It cost them maybe $10 in material and shipping. They should have just shipped out a rear section ASAP as soon as they received the defective carpet but it's water under the bridge. I hope no one else goes through it!!!
To add insult to injury, the hook strip that holds the carpet to the back board looks like it was sew on by a one handed retard
BUT I'm not about to pull it out again! Buyer beware!!!!

Same thing happened to me on my wife's 70 roadster. It was 2 years after the point of purchase and I had to shell out $85 to the upholsterer who felt sorry for me, Wilcox Corvette did not. My only complaint with Wilcox is the treatment I recieved on this problem. Many others have since posted simular problems.
I think Auto Custom Carpets must be employing non-english speaking workers who cannot figure out the correct way to perform their work.
The carpet kit I did in a 74 Vette a while later had fittment problems too. This SH*T! isn't very funny! for the $$ a carpet kit runs.
