Can anyone recommend a new carburetor for my 79 L48? It has the original quadrajet. There a lot of vacuum lines running from it. Do I need to order something special? I don't want to replace it with another quadrajet. Any advice would be much appreciated.
There will be the same number of vacuum lines running from whatever carb you buy...unless you just don't want the vacuum systems or emission controls in your car to work. And, frankly, you could do that with the carb you have now.
So, exactly why do you want/need to change the carb? And why can't your problem be solved by rebuilding the carb you already have? [Just trying to save you time, money and grief. Many folks have gone down the same path as you...only to be disillusioned by the results from their new carb.]
I had Sean Murphy make one to my Vortec Build Spec., it starts great and idles smooth. Adjusted the throttle linkage to get full movement on the secondaries and it opened up a lot of HP. The car is just a blast to drive when the engine follows your right foot.
Would have saved $120 if I sent my original Q-Jet to be rebuilt, which I may do this winter.
