74 Auto trans shifting problem
New to the forum, be lurking a little while, learned alot already. Thanks!
Looking for answers....
I have a '74 auto that has been sitting since '92. I have been playing around with the car for about a year, replacing rear suspension, brake system, interior, windshield frame, windshield, numerous engine parts -the list goes on...
I have the motor (75k miles) running fairly well, and on my numurous "test drives" the car was shift well, actually better than expected. Now, on half a dozen occassions, the trans would not get out of first - not everytime I drive it, just some of the times. When it shifts, it shifts great - when it doesn't it doesn't, it winds out first and then looses "grip?". I thought vacuum issues, replaced the old rubber lines to the modulator, it worked (or so I thought) for the next drive
Next time I drove it, it wouldn't shift correctly.
In short, sometimes it feels like shifting, sometimes it don't.
Any ideas?
