Hi f69,
I'd think you should plug the line running from the tank to the filter to make sure no fuel will be able to splash high enough in the tank to come out the vent line.
Regards,
Alan

Default vent line

Yes, definately cap it off. When I first bought my '69 everytime I filled the tank I could smell gasoline. About the second time I filled I drove a couple blocks and stopped at a Starbucks for coffee. When I came out the was a significant stream of gas that was running down the sloped parking lot and under adjacent cars. There was enough fuel that I called the fire department to come and soak up the fuel as well as strand by in case some idiot tossed a cigarette on the ground. Scary. I immediately realized I had to block off that vent line. It was apparenlty abandoned when the previous owner changed out the carb and fuel pump.
