Default Need parts - '79

Hello,

Just got back from doing a inspection with a friend who is a mechanic on my car and need to order some new parts to fix a few leaks.. Whats the best place to order original parts for a 1979 corvette?

Also when I bought this car we noticed under the engine hood it's missing the hood insulation. What does the insulation do if it was there, i forgot to ask him, figured I'd ask on here since I'm thinking about it? Anyone know?

Also my speedometer tack isn't working.. Probably need to order parts there as well. Possibly bad cable or bad gears.. Not exactly sure.

Here's a quick list of the minor thing that I need to order anyway..

New Valve covers and new gaskets
New thermostat and new gaskets

That's about it.. for now..

Check the list of supporting vendors on the left and you will find a source for everything you will ever need.

Before you buy repair parts familiarize yourself with posts here to understand how things work and how to fix common problems. Example: your '79 does not have a tach cable. It's electronic. There are many posts about fixing a tach if you do a search.

One of the vendors has some instructions on replacing the tach board along with other helpful repairs.

Enjoy your car and read this forum often. The people and information are priceless.

Try your local Chevy dealer first. They still stock a lot of the old stuff especially the common stuff like you need.

Hi LaS,
I believe the insulation is there to lessen the engine compartment's heat from harming the paint on the hood.
That's a pretty nice short list!
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
