Hi,
Has anybody ever refitted the metal front cross member on a 1977 C3, that fits just under the front end panel between the headlights and the bonnet (hood)? It is suppose to be stuck to the fibreglass with an adhesive, I have recently tried to attach the metal cross member to the fibreglass front panel with a product called Tiger sealent, when the two parts are clamped together there is alot of pressure trying to force them apart. The adhesive product should be left for 24Hrs to cure, so I left it clamped together for 2 weeks (just to make sure), it is now starting to come apart. I was recomended this product but it does not seem to be up to the job, Does anybody know of a product that sticks shi*t to a blanket or another way to fix the two together if so please could you let me know.

Regards Jerry

You want this stuff. I've used it on my Vette, and it sticks (fiberglass to steel).

Gary

Thanks for that info,
Was there much pressure needed to keep the crossmember and the fibreglass together?

I went another direction and used 100% silicone to build in some flex. Many years ago I installed several new crossmembers and reglued several old ones that had separated.
With both surfaces clean I tied 8-10 pieces of 22 gauge wire with insulation around the crossmember , filled the void with silicone, wedged, clamped and aligned the crossmember in place and let it sit 48 hours. The ones I know their whereabouts are still holding.

I just used small C-clamps to hold it together while the stuff cured. It didn't seem to expand as it dried like a lot of adhesives. I did the repair about 6 years ago, and it hasn't failed yet (knock on wood).

This shows the part I had to reattach. It held up part of the headlight stuff. The picture is looking up from the bottom through the headlight opening.
