Default Wire Identification

Can someone take a look and give me your thoughts on what these wires go to? These are 6 all black wires that are located under the dash and run near the Hood release. They were cut off by the last owner whom cut the harness in several places. Any help is appreciated, I picked up a large color schematic, but can't determine where these 6 below, and ther all wraped up in the old factory tape.

First clue is the color. They are ground wires.

BTW, the emergency or parking brake is on the transmission tunnel on 67 through 82 cars with a button at the end of the handle to release the brake so are you maybe thinking of the hood release?

Also, I assume you intended to include a picture but it never came through in your posting.

CCrane72 yes of course... I must have fallen and hit my head, yes of course... hood release. Sorry not thinking... As for the ground wires, that would make sense, now where do these 6 black ground wires terminate to? any clue? I just have a cut off wires, I would assume tha that they likely extend through the fire wall and had a connector on them of some sort, but that is long since been trashed by someone before me. I'll work on that pic, not sure why it did not post.

Are you sure they're all black because I can't think of that many all together over by the hood release ?

Just looked at my 71', nothing like it anywhere near the hood release cable. Is it the left overs from some after market radio or alarm system?

I'd suggest that you use some solvent to wipe the 'black' off those wires. Very unlikely to have 6 ground wires all in the same place.

I was thinking along the same lines as Gary. Sounds to me like someone put an aftermarket stereo/alarm in there and grounded everything to one point and then cut it out to sell the car. Any other evidence of horseplay in there? 6 is an aweful lot of grounds, even for an aftermarket stereo system... maybe they are actually another color as suggested. There are some dark purple wires under my dash, one was spliced in to replace a factory orange wire but it could easily be mistaken for black I think.

Are both ends free? Anything not working?

Bullshark good call, after looking at the posts today I too believe them to be fiber optic wires... I am by no way an expert, but this guy I bought the car from was a butcher...
These are for sure factory and I striped off one of the wires and sure enough we have fiber strands inside. a few of the wires have faint yellow hash marks and numbers...
Well that makes things far more difficult than if these were just ground wires now don't they...

69 makes it an even better bet that those are fiber optics- at the front, they would be for headlights and park/turn lights. The ones for the rear run across the front of the rear package shelf from the left rear wheelhouse.
