82 speedometer cable
I have an 82 c3 with 42000 original miles. I was driving the other day and noticed a sqeak that got quite loud. I pulled in to a Chevy dealer thinking it was a wheel bearing and they discovered it was the speedometer cable. 3 days out to order one so I had them just disconnect it until getting a new one. Now, the torque converter lockup does not engage, and the check engine light comes on after the engine has warmed up. Why is this? I must admit that I like it better without the converter lock up, but can it do any harm??

The VSS for these is on the back of the speedo cluster. If the speedo isn't working the computer does not know how fast you are going and the light will come on and the torque converter won't lock. You will have drivability issues until you fix the cable.
