Default Muffler Choice - Down to 3 !!

Any of you guys running '69 350/300 HP with Hedman Long Tube headers with true duals - no X pipe or Cat and either Magnaflow's, Dynomax Ultra Flows or Dynomax Super Turbo's have Sound clips? I would consider Flowmaster as well.

I want to make a decision by tomorrow so I can get this done over the weekend.

I have gone on Youtube and listened to a lot of sound clips, but unless it is a comparable car/set up, it really does not help. A lot of newer Vettes and big blocks with high HP motors, no way they will sound like mine.

Cheers Guys !

I have the Ultra Flows and love them but no sound clip that'd help you (mine's a 427 with a nasty lil' cam). The Flowmaster's aren't really in the league of 'performance' muffler like your other choices though.

You'll have a hard time finding those muffs on a Vette with your exact motor. My Vette has a 427 w/ the UltraFlos and the Z28 in my avatar has a 355 w/ cam and the UltraFlos. If you want a vid of either I do have them- just let me know. I think the Camaro would sound most like your Vette would in spite of the different pipe configuration.

I have the same muffler on both of my cars- it's the polished SS version that's now a bit pricey- Part #17283. I bought them maybe 10-15 years ago and they still look brand new. I get compliments all the time on how both cars sound.

However, they make the same center/offset design w/ same dimensions in the welded, non-polished version for quite a bit less- Part #17219.

These mufflers are both 2 1/2" in/out, so you'll need to hit the Dynomax website if you want something different. They are not made specifically for the Vette but any decent muffler shop will be able to install them no problem.

I have the flowmaster 50's on my car. I'm very happy with the sound, and don't get any of the interior resonance that alot of people with the flowmaster 40 or 44's complain about
The sound you like is a personal choice, and what sounds good to me may sound like crap to you.....look at lots of vids and think about it for awhile.

Are you running headers and a 2 1/2 inch pipe all the way back? Crossover or true duals?

I had Flow 50's and the drone drove me up a wall! Pitched em' and installed magnaflows with a xpipe and really like this set up much better ...but it is a subjective thing...one sound one man's drone may be another man's music! Check out as many sound clips as possible into a 500W PA. Good luck!

Magnaflows and ultraflos are very similar mufflers. They'll perform and sound very similarly.

The Super Turbos aren't much louder than stock mufflers.

Yes I have long tube headers and 21/2" pipe all the way back, with a 11/2" H pipe up at the collectors.....you can see it in the vid.

I can't give you a clip for mine cuz the drive trains in peices at the moment, but I have a72 with a 330hp 350 with the headman ceramic long tubes true 2 1/2" exhaust with the flowmaster Super 40's and when I'm out in it or at a show the "sound" of it is what gets the most compliments. Very little interior resonance and my carpet and padding are crap. Can't wait to roll out the Dynomat and really see the difference!

Default Magnaflow it is!

It was a touch choice between Flowmaster 50's, Dynomax Ultra Flows and the Magna flows. But since my local Speed Shop had Magna's on sale for $66, I decided to give them a shot! The Flows are $106 and the Dyno's $126. So for half the price I can experiment a little.

I will post the results once I get them on this long weekend!

Thanks for all your comments!

I'm running the Hedman's into the Ultraflows with no crossover. I've this for 10 years now and still love the setup on my 383 stroker. I can send you a clip tomorrow once I get back home if you want - just pm me your email address.
