Okay so I am not new to cars but I am new to the C3. I recently bought one and the master cylinder for its manual brakes needed to be replaced. When I was putting the new master on I thought that the studs on the firewall were capitive and one of them pushed inside the firewall !! How do I get behind it so I can put a stud back in the hole?
"Under the dash"....so what do I have to take off to get to it? Remove the dash or can you see it laying on your back with your head on the brake pedal etc?
Take the seat out, lay on your back with legs and feet inside the car. Don't forget the bolt and drop light when you go in. Bring a beer, chips and cell phone. Good luck.
I'd try taping about 6 feet of string to a piece of #12 solid wire, feed it in from the engine compartment bending the wire as you go so it heads towards the floor.
If you can get it to where you can reach it inside the cockpit, stop and tie the string off to something on the motor, tie the other end of the string onto the threads of the bolt and have a helper slowly pull it through while you try to guide it from inside. Start the nut then cut as much of the string off as possible.
Might not even need to remove the seat.
Seems like you always have to take something else off to get to what you want to do. This makes you get very familiar with your car, but, I love it.....congrats on your C3 and welcome. Ed

And remember t he guy who recently had to amputate his arm because he got it caught in the furnace- thats why you need the cell phone
Don't be afraid to remove the seat if you need to. Some of us people are not petite in size and it can be a real booger getting up in there.
Always just remove the seat if you're doing any under-dash work. It takes ten minutes to pull the seat vs the pain you'll go through trying to work under there with the seat in. Petite won't even work. You're going for primordial dwarf if you leave the seat in.
Hi,
There seem to be more than a few things that happen to an elderly Corvette that require you to 'assume the position'.
Sometime you might even be required to bend forward from the waist.
Good Luck!
