Ok guys As you know I have to do a rear suspension rebuild and need to get the new chambered pipe out of the way. To recap, I have a 2" croospipe in front of the 1st cross member and the pipes are welded all the way back. I stopped at a Truck parts store and got SS band clamps as suggested but it says not to use for Butt splices. SO what did you do? I was planning on cutting nice and even and butt spicing, maybe I can get one side opened up for a slip fit and then clamp -but might loose some length?
Gary
When I got new headers I went and bought that cheapie flex pipe stuff and a couple of clamps from the local parts store. It will get you by until you can get to the muffler shop and have a real repair done
Hey guys I remember the soup can trick - saw it alot when I was a kid working in a FULL SERVICE GAS STATION, that's something you don't see anymore :mad
I guess I'll have to figure something out when I get there. Too bad because the system is brand new :nopity

Do you have access to a welder and the ability to weld? you dould do it that way.
Most automotive stores have adaptor pieces of pipe expanded on both sides. You could get them and a couple of muffler clamps too or weld them back together

Re: Exhaust pipe butt splice ???? (gtr1999)
Gary, I have a MIG that I could bring down to you or you could come up and we could weld them when your ready. I would use some regular muffler clamps and some straight stock to hold the butt splice together so you can weld. I would also get a peice of sheet steel to protect the floor pan. I could drop the welder off next weekend if you want you'll only need a outlet to fit the welder.
Thanks Tom,
I will keep that in mind. I have welded before but it's been a few years. I haven't even started the repair yet so it will be the last thing I need. What's the voltage of your welder and the amp draw? I only have a 15 amp 120 volt line in the garage.
Gary,
PS how did you make out with the door? And are you going to the show in Springfield next week?
