I am in the process of painting my vette and I am going to switch the driver chrome mirror with a driver and passenger sport mirrors. Does anyone know if the sport mirror has the same bolt pattern with the chrome mirror?
If I'm reading them right, the distance between bolt holes is 2.79 on both and if I'm reading the chrome mirror page right, the distance between bolts for it is 1.75.
The distance from the top of the door is also different between sport & chrome (1.55" from top of the door to center of the front hole, 1.51" on the back hole).
My brain is a little tired right now, so I haven't looked to see if the base of the sports would cover the chrome holes completely, but I would guess they would. I can check or post the chrome mirror page if you want to check for yourself.
Of course, you could always go dual chrome. Personally, I like that look :yesnod:

Thanks for your reply

yes, would you post the chrome mirror page. thanks again
I just realized that, after a recent PC meltdown, I don't have my scanner working yet. If I can't get it working tomorrow I'll try to take a digital pic & pull it in that way.
I'm not sure why you haven't seen a passenger chrome mirror. I think about all of the vendors sell both the large (that's what you should have) & small head mirrors. I got mine from Zip for less than $50. It looks great, went on great (http://users.erols.com/jerryp58/corv...ightmirror.htm, sorry this is a big page for 56k'ers), and my only regret is that I didn't buy a new driver's side too.
I had to change the passenger door and it came with the sport mirror (which I also prefer). I had to cut a hole in my driver's door to install a matching sport mirror there. Had to drill new holes, etc. Yes, the old hole will be covered. Also had to remove the window glass. I don't know if the chrome mirror will be easier or not... I had my glass out anyway to fix the window slider so it was easier for me.
77 was first year w/ dual sport mirrors from factory which I have & prefer.
The chrome reflects radar, but do have better visibility to the rear. Nothing approaches in my rearview at speed anyway so it doesn't matter.
hey guys thanks for all your input i really appreciated, I am still deciding which way to go... and Ganey Do you have a hole pattern for the sport mirrors or did you use one of the holes that already existed from your previous chrome mirror and can you tell me why you had to take the window off.. thanks again guys.
Ray
I used the gasket as a pattern for mine - can't remember for sure anymore but I don't think that I could use the old chrome mirror holes at all, but I had to match the existing mirror on the passenger side. You might be able to use one hole if the location works for you.
The other thing to think about is whether or not you want/need a remote adjuster cable. Not really necessary but might make a nice touch.

Frank, I dont think I want to keep the remote adjustable cable because i would have to make extra holes on the door and the inner door pane and i dont think i am up for it. so my question is how hard is it to remove the adjustable cable from the sport mirror with out damaging the mirror mechanism
thanks again Ray
