Default parking brake help

Hello All,
I had my trailing arms rebuilt on the 72 along with the parking brakes etc. I am having a problem adjusting the star dial on the drivers side. Everytime I try to turn it with the screwdriver, the star mechanism pushes down toward the bottom and will not turn. I've removed the disc drum to try and determine the problem. All I can find is that both parking brake pads will move left and right, and up and down with ease. They move as a unit. It just seems like they should stay in place. Am I missing something? I cant get this side to adjust and its really aggravating. Any suggestions?

Just a shot in the dark here. Do you not turn star differently on this side from other side? sounds like it is bottomed out maybe ???

Default turns the same

i checked that when I pulled the drum off. It will turn somewhat when I remove the drum but the entire mechanism moves down. Its hard for me to explain other than to say the star dial along with the pads etc is not stationary within the drum. i can move the entire thing with the scre driver with the drum on or off. When it moves down, which I have no way to stabalize it, the dial will not turn. Something is amiss but i don't know what??

Thanks,

andy

I agree it sounds as if the star has run out of threads and you need to turn it the other way. There is a R and L assembly.
As far as the shoes moving, they are supposed to,the shoes are designed to wedge themselves using the top anchor pin.
( I think its a called a servo self energizing system. ..I know too much info. )

Are the adjusters installed correctly? If not then just turn the other way.

Are the star wheel and the slotted end of the adjusting screw rusted together? They should be two separate pieces as shown in the picture above.

Default solved

I think I fixed the problem. I removed the star wheel adjuster and put it back in and now it works great. I believe the star part was too high on the shoe and was binding with the spring. All good now. Thanks for all suggestions.
