Because miatas have their own entire racing class in SCCA, and cobras are pretty easy to make into 11 second or faster quarter mile cars, thus requiring a bar on the strip.
I would LIKE to have a roll bar in my C3, but it's not a cheap thing to do by any means. Bit more involved, work wise, for your typical do it your selfer (me), plus the parts themselves cost a pretty penny. Only ones I have seen made for the C3s are from auto power.
I have one in my 1980, it came from Summit or Jegs, seems like it cost about $130. It comes in pieces and you weld it together, main hoop is bent to fit C-3. Fairly easy to install if you have welding experience.
