Default please help with timing issue

So my buddy wanted to help me work on my intake today so i had him number the wires on the distributor and the cap, well he messed it up. he has even and odd numbers coming from the same side of the block and and im pretty sure he didnt get one at the right place. anyone have a photo or reference of where 1 and the rest of the firing numbers are in relation to the distributor cap if an '82 with the crossfire injection??

G'day,

elke's advice is good, but I'm guessing that you don't know where #1 hole on the distributor is. Sometimes there is a small slot machined into the metal part of the dissy under the cap, and this is where #1 plug lead should go.

However, you have pulled the dissy out of the car and maybe you have put in back in the wrong way. There is a timing sticky at the top of this page and you should look at that to do it properly.

If you have not rotated your engine and have not moved the oil pump drive shaft ( which is possible if you put a long screwdriver down the hole ) then there are only two ways that the oil pump drive shaft will line up. One of them is wrong!

If you put the dissy back in and follow elke's advice and the engine coughs and farts when you crank it, you have put it in the wrong way. You have to pull it out and rotate the shaft 180 degrees and put it in again.

It's not rocket science, but it sure looks like it if you haven't done it before. Good luck!

Regards from Down Under
