T - 2 Weeks until I drop the 468 in. What hoist do I need? I used a hoist on my 68 Camaro to drop in my new engine and nearly scratched the car. The legs on the bottom weren't long enough and I don't think the boom was long enough either.
Does anyone know of an exact model or measurements that I need? I plan on renting, not buying. I don't have enough room to store an engine hoist.
the legs are 6' the height is 5', and the boom is 5.5' long...
made of 1/4 inch steel square tube...
should be about 3' wide....
this is the minimum I feel is adequate for any automobile engine....
anything significantly smaller is unstable unuseable junk....

The smaller one I was using was the one my dad bought for taking the outdrive off of his boat when he winterizes it. I think the one I was using was that size though, but I still had to put the camaro down on blocks on the brake drums (wheels off) to get the engine to clear when coming out over the fender.
Steve what I gave you was the dimesnions of my parts/sections as sitting in the stand...taken apart....as it's assembled...the vertical height at boom pivot is closer to 6'....and so the engine in my rig goes up to 8' off the ground at top of boom....so that is plenty even for a jacked up pickup....
well MOST of them anyway....
