Default INtake Manifold Recommendation?

Curious what might be a good intake for a stock ZZ4 with the stock L98 heads. My plan is to eventually move over to a set of AFR 195's and a 5 speed. I've currently got a 670 Street Avenger and a TH400 trans. I supoose it's to much to ask that I can get one that will work [well] for both set ups. I suppose I haven't even checked to see if the ports will match up...

If I can't get one for now and future, I'd settle for a moderately priced intake that outflows my current GM intake, especially if I'll see some gains from it. The one I got with the car looks aweful. I would have no problem going to a single plane when I get the 5 speed and the AFR's.

Recommendations? Pics? I was thinking an Air Gap but i've seen a lot of posts about clearance problems.

Thanks,
Dan

I put the AirGap on mine with no probs. It flows better than a couple of others I have tried. Been a lot of write ups about the Weiand Street Warrior intake for small blocks. Good for low end torque they say. I got great torque from the AirGap.

Default Keep that intake and port those heads instead.

That ZZ4 intake was designed to be a match for the original LT1 intake that made great power for the street driven car and have better hood clearance. And i read u have headers with side pipes so it should breath well on both intake and exhaust manifolds.
But those L98 style heads on your ZZ4 would flow soo much better with some porting on the intake side - the exhaust ports already flow pretty good. From what i've read is the L98 head just needs minor porting on the intake with a good 3 angoe vlv job to make over 400hp. Now larger vlvs like 2.00 intk and 1.60 exh would help but will add to the cost.
IMHO that ZZ4 intake is as good as any for your application (i have one sitting on the shelf also ready for a project) and the money would be better spent on headwork or better heads. BTW those AFR big runners and large chambers are not the direction to go with only 350 cubes. U will lose fuel mixture velocity and cylinder compression. Maybe even make it slower. If u don't like porting your L98 heads try Edelbrock corvette heads #60869 with big vlvs, small 160cc intk runners and tight 60cc chambers. Bigger is not always better buddy.

Good luck and hope this helps,

Did the air gap fit under your stock hood without any modifications?

Most of the Weiands will not fit under the hood.
A Feb. 09 "Hot Rod" magazine article about upgrades to the ZZ4 said a Weiand Team G single plane worked best with Trick Flow heads. Also, will fit under an L88 hood.

Yes, u should read and print that article with all dyno charts for a closer look. I found it on the Hot Rod mag w/s. It was only a comparision for the stock Chevy intake vs the Wieand - no others.

That Weiand duaplane manifold made just 2ft-lbs and 8hp more which is only an 0.7% and 2.6% improvement. What is that dyno's calibration error? That $31/hp for a $250 manifold (maybe) but nearly nothing for torque (something smells here). There was no direct comparision between the Weiand single plane and the stock ZZ4 GM dual plane but it would be nice to see what a single plane does with a small stock cam.

The big power increases came with a new cam then heads (TFS only type tested BTW). They added a cam with 18 degrees more of intake duration increasing ovelap 21.5 degrees to 73 degrees - good luck on the street with that cam. That TFS cam also lost 5" vacuum with that duration increase. They tried to make up for the compression loss of the large chamber TFS heads with a thin steel shim head gasket - good luck on an aluminum head (and i don't believe thier compression ratio calculation either). Just think a minute here. Going from 163cc runners to 195cc is a 20% increase - what does that do to mixture velocity and cylinder filling at low rpm?? The only improvement i see is the larger vlvs and as stated before u can have them installed into the L98 heads (or buy the Edelbrock heads).

All that article provided was cheap advertizing for TFS and Weiand/Holley. And a camshaft is not really just a "bolt on" modification. Its a fairly major internal mod - more difficult than swapping heads i feel.
