Default Cleaning rotors

Finishing up a rear suspension rebuild. Can't believe I did it. :D Got the rear spring on today- that was sort of scarey but I followed the many threads on tightening, left the final torqueing for once on the ground, and put on a heavy duty cover for good measure. All thats left is to bleed the brakes, tighten emergency brake, put on sway bar and let it rip! The rotors were turned by Bairs and now have some grease on them - nothing heavy just fingerprints. Now to my question: Do I have to buy brake cleaner to clean them or can I use something else I may already have in the garage?

If its just fingerprints the brake pads will take care of those. If you re concerned still concerned you could use any type of mineral solvent you have around, just give the rotor a quick rinse with water before bolting it on.

Thanks dman. That is the answer I was hoping for. By the way, either your rear tires are on fire, or your car is burning a little oil. :jester (Very nice picture.)

Brake cleaner on a lint free rag is great. The oh s @#$% t only comes in when you bleen the brakes and the fluid hits the hose and runs onto the rotor. Careful!

Rubbing Alcohol works pretty good, lacquer thinner, acetone or any kind of non-oily solvent.
