We examined the chasis of my dad's 76 today. We did a complete and beautiful resto of the interior and electronics on this car, and we knew there was work to do on the suspension. But today, I think we discovered something pretty bad.
The parts of the chasis were the front suspension (the springs) is situated seems cracked. But we still have doubts since it is the same on both sides. There are 2 layers of steel on this part of the chasis, and the bottom layer is cracked.
this is one side (front right) :
The other side :
This seems like another welding place which is losing :
What do you guys think judging by these pictures? Can this still be welded?
I'm a bit afraid of the answer. We've been driving this car for 1,5 years now without even noticing this.
I would say if you can get in there and grind the cracks clean and then weld them, you should be OK. Got to wonder what caused them in the first place, that's not normal wear
