Fast Idle
I put plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc, on today (PITA- BTW).
It fired right up and was running at around 1500 RPMs. It was 90 degrees out and the choke plate was wide open. It would not kick down no matter what I tried and the (regular) idle screw was not on it's seat. All linkages were loose and nothing seemed to be pulling or pushing on the throttle. I could push it forward and it would run at lower RPM, but not stay there when released.
Finally after wondering how to get it in reverse at those revs, I got a rolling start and backed out of the driveway. Upon slowly driving about 100 feet, the idle went to normal.
Same as last year.
I had read somewhere about possible interference with hoses or whatever on the air cleaner so I ran it with out it. When I got home I put it all back together and it seems fine again.
Any suggestions?
Are you aware that there is an idle adjustment and a fast idle adjustment? (right-front of carb) It also seems that you would do best to set up the carb as described in the Chevy Chassis Service Manual under "Fuel System". There are lots of adjustments on the carb and choke that interact with each other, so it's best to follow the Chevy procedure.
