mine looked fragile, so instead of waiting for it to snap, I replaced it. I also replaced the left to right cable(that runs under the hood)
But thanks to my good luck, they don't make replacement cables(left side to right side cable that is), for a '77. A little tip: So I made one out of a trottle cable from a lawn mower. Boy was my dad suprised when he went to mow the lawn. Just kidding about that last part, but I seriously used a throttle cable. Not only does it work, but with my old cable, I had to pull once or twice to get the pass side to release, now it works like a champ.
Sweet daniel77350, too funny about the lawn mower cable... :jester
Never had a problem with mine before until I laid my carb that i was about to put on, down on the relay in the engine compartment, and it then shorted through the carb touching the latch system somehow and heated up the cable till it broke.....never even realized till i heard it snap and saw the cable was red from the heat :bb
I find taking out the cable handle and bracket, and putting a coathanger in the latch loop, one end hangng inside the engine compartment for backup, and the other in the pass compartment with hose on it, looped over....
hides nice, works reliably...
not a bad idea mrvette.... I think ive actually mastered opening it though....lol
not a god thing..... I sure was using some of those wonderful words in our vocubulary the first few times....LoL
