I'm installing new U-joints with grease fittings on both drive- and 1/2-shafts.
Wich direction should I put all grease fittings in order to make it the easiest to reach them with the grease gun?'
Regardless of where the fitting is pointing, the area where the fitting hole is located, needs to be under compression, not tension when torque is applied. Either that or get the joints without grease fittings. They're stronger.
You have to point the grease fitting toward the shaft in which it is installed. Otherwise, you will have it pointed toward a component (axle, tranny, wheel) such that you won't be able to get a grease gun to hook up to it.
As mentioned, if you have a 'beefed up' engine with significantly higher torque than stock, you probably want to go with joints without grease fittings. If you just cruise around and don't put lots of stress into those joints, pick whichever type you want.
