Default Door Help

I have just rehung both doors on my 73 vette and all was sweet until I reinstalled the weatherstripping.

On the drivers door no problems but on the passenger side with the new weatherstripping installed I cannot get the door to close properly.

Now I have done all of the adjustments I can think off removed door shims, added door shims etc. I have also searched the forum and not found anything to answer this issue.

I have looked at the AIM and there is not a lot of detail on how to rehang the doors.

Does anyone have a procedure to rehang the doors? I replaced the bushing on the hinge but not the pin and the door opens and closes sweetly and aligns nicely without the weatherstripping but with it will not close properly.

Anyway to determine (other than trial and error) number of shims top, bottom etc.

Any thoughts???

Cheers

use the shims and the door striker to set the door even with the other panels, not to fit the weather stripping. make sure you have the "soft" weather stripping, not the "hard" type. the weather stripping will compress after a while and allow the door to close properly. it's a commom complaint with new rubber. i still can't get my t-tops to sit down!

Hi,
I agree with jnb that the doors need to sit closed for a week or two with the new weatherstrip in place. Then the doors may need to be adjusted a little bit to get the gaps you want.
On my 71 the fit and gaps were o.k. but the doors needed to be slammed to get them to latch. That problem went away after a couple of weeks of the doors sitting closed and I could readjust the striker so the doors would close as they should.
Patience!
Regards,
Alan
