Default Road Demon really bad stumble

Hi everyone
OK so I was driving my '81 last night, parked it for a bit, and then got back in to leave - hard to start, and a realllly bad stumble right off idle. It was running perfect before this, especially after spending considerable time tuning the carb. A cousin sat the driver seat while it was parked and goosed the throttle a couple times (car wasn't running) - that is the only thing that happened in the meantime.
specs: 355 crate motor, 750 Road Demon carb
It was running great before, and now it's really hard to start and the stumble is so bad that you have to accelerate very slowly or else it will cough and die
I've never been happy with this carb, but after I spent a load of time adjusting it I finally got it working great, and now this
Any ideas?

Are the secondaries mechanical on the demon? If so make sure they are not hung partially open.

I would suspect the choke mechanism.

This would also fit in with your friend goosing the throttle if he set the choke while doing so and the pull off mechanism is malfunctioning.

It would also explain you accelleration problems if the butterfly is hanging up or "free floating" with the intake stream.

FIXED!
Sorry to take so long getting back - thanks for the replies -
I checked the choke, no problems there, nothing hanging up etc, same with the secondaries (mechanical) no problem there, and it revs smoothly using just those. Turns out the throttle return spring bracket came a little loose, and the spring ***'y swung in just enough to hit the top of the accelerator pump arm and hold it down.
Gotta get me a fancy new bracket now it would seem, and while I'm at it I could use a fancy new fuel supply line for the carb, and maybe some other shiny bits - the shiny doodad list looks like it can keep getting bigger, does it ever end?
lol
