Default Front suspension help

HI All,
Well I was just going to put a waterpump on the baby this weekend, (the old one was making noise but not leaking). After reading another post the other day someone said, might as well do the radiator...so out it came also. Then you guys started talking about the dist size and hole size in the intake so off came the intake and dist. The hole size in the Edelbrock Performer on my 81 SB 350 is 1.442" and the Edelbrock dist. measures exactly 1.250" That is quite a bit of play but must be seated properly and square to the top maintain proper alignment. Now here is the question I have. What control arm bushing and from whom should I get them. I want to go back to stock like or something real close to them. Any help would be appreciated. Also now that I have the intake off, I'm pulling the heads and have them redone. Do I have to drop the oil pan to get the timing chain cover off? If I'm going to do the heads might as well replace the cam with something a little hotter and the timing chain/gears. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. I have pictures but don't know how to upload them yet.

Sounds like you got the same "will I'm there disease" I have  .
You can take the timing chain cover off W/O dropping the pan.
Hopefully your rings and bottom end isn't in to bad of shape. Otherwise
bringing the compression back up with fresh heads and a new cam might be
a bit much for a real worn engine. You'll get a pretty good idea looking at the ridge at the top of the cylinders to see how much wear the rings have gone thru.

The best price on the bushings is the Restoration Store (ZIP) at the top of the Home page and you get 5% off. I think bushings are $4. a piece on there.

Yes you can pull the timing cover without pulling the timing chain, but why? If your going to do all that. Pull the cover and add a new one piece gasket. I pulled everything but the block and it worked out great. I even repainted the block during the process.

Whats up on the distributer hole size? I have alot of play in mine.

Not real familiar with 350's but with 265-283-327's, you do have to drop the oil pan, or at least loosen it enough to drop the front down, to get the lip of the timing chain cover out. Chuck
