If I go back (way back!) to my 1979 days it was pretty much the same setup but with a vertical, cylindrical filter of some sort included in the booster line. You can see it in your first pic. I do not know its purpose.
Maybe the Q jets fed the booster from the carb and the Holleys fed from the manifold port. I know I have seen the metal line attached to the manifold port on some cars.

Yes. This is a pic of the 327/300 in my former 1967. You can see the power brake booster and the Powerglide modulator valve taking vacuum from a fitting at the back of the intake.
Paul, I don't remember what the big filter on the PB vacuum hose is either. I always figured it was some sort of large check-valve type of device possibly to keep gas and crankcase vapors from the carb or intake from backflowing into the PB booster unit.

I suspect so but the lack thereof has not hurt my 1974. Perhaps a problem developed afterward. Another mystery of Corvette history and design engineering I guess.
Correct. There should be nothing else in the line except the booster. Do not tee it.
I agree completely. That brake booster on the C3 needs full vacuum.
FWIW for the original poster, you can't find that steel line anywhere. But a little bit of $5.00 NAPA steel tubing and a bender/flaring tool it can be done. The brass fitting is about $2.00.
Makes Two of us Roger! I'm sorry lindstromjd, I forgot about this! Barry you got me... again...
Ernie when you work on different years and different engines each day like we do ,they all have a way of blending together.
If the car is in front of you ,as you know, its a no-brainer !
One "very good" thing I've noticed for awhile now, we all seem to work nicely together , watching each others backs and correcting incorrect information "gently" to see the OP gets the information he or she needs.
That makes spending time here trying to help C3 owners a real pleasure.

So true Roger and yes, sometimes they all flow together!
This has always been a great community effort and I know I've really enjoyed being here!

unfortunately there are a few exceptions to that with some people on here... but that's the downside of public forums. There is always some bad to go with the good
One thing's for sure, the pictures and diagrams you guys got me will help out immensely. Next time... I'm not gonna pull the "newbie" mistake of taking everything apart and assuming that I'll remember how it goes back together. I'll start taking everything back apart and plugging off what I don't need (like the EGR stuff) and let you all know how it turns out.
And a million thanks to everyone for helping me out on this!!

not me, I wasn't sure either which place the PB line went to - the fitting or the carb base.

yeah, and it only took 4 of us to figure out this simple issue of where the brake line hose connected!

the trick is to take a zadzillion digital pics as you go along so you can follow them on re-assembly

Haha. I know I had that same thought... but sometimes my stubborn-ness gets the best of me and I think I'll be able to get away with it. Next time, I'll consider this lesson learned.
