Took a 2 hr drive this past weekend, 4 days later I found a small oil puddle almost directly under the compressor on the floor. Didn't smell like motor oil, no where else it could have come from, but how??? Thanks ED
Servicing the AC on all 4 of my Vettes over the last year, 3 needed the front seal replaced.
TWO R4 compressors needed the large O-rings replaced between the outer cover and the compressor. This didn't become apparent till after evac'ing and charging the systems. Held vacuum fine but the charged pressure must have been too much for the O-rings.
It did leave oil residue under the compressor and on the brackets but nothing reached the floor.
Front seal requires some special tools to replace. I've been known to loan mine out for shipping $. I MADE a nice pulling tool to seperate the shell from the compressor, too.
