Default 82 Crossfire- Lean?

I am working on a 27K mile original car- never tampered with (TBI plugs in place..). Car was parked in 1997.

I've flushed out all the old fuel, new MAP and O2, verified the TBI springs and diaphrams are good, and attempted to check the timing. Looked over all the vacuum hoses, etc.

The issue is that it will fire up, but runs rough and stalls. I can keep it running by pumping the throttle. When I attempt to hold the throttle at a steady RPM- say 2000- it leans out quickly and shuts down.

When attempting to let it idle, the RPMs drop way down- then the IACs open up and a burst of fuel is made, but it rarely stays running.

What to check next? I've read through other threads but none seem to speak of this condition.

The CEL works, and no codes are getting set.

Ideas?

Check the timing with the brown wire disconnected from the distributor. This is the ECM advance wire. You want to set the base timing to 6BTDC with the brown wire disconnected. Higher mileage engines like a few more degrees (8BTDC). The connector for this is near the driver side firewall. Disconnect the wire there.

Change the (1) fuel filter and then (2) fuel pump if needed. I recommend the EP241 (85 Vette fuel pump).

Also recommend you replace the Coolant Temp Sensor at the front of the intake manifold. These are known to go bad. Get a new one for an 84 Vette, which will come with a yellow-black pigtail and a better weather pack connector. I think I got mine from Rock Auto.com (best price).

Get the red 1982 Corvette GM shop manual by Helms. Lots of great info in there.

I have attempted to get the timing back to 6 degrees: car will not start and briefly run unless it is bumped up to 10-12. I have set the engine to TDC via the timing marks and verified the rotor position in relation to the #1 wire on the cap: they are in phase.

Will check out the CTS and fuel pump.
