I did a search, and I THINK I know my issue....but JUST to be safe, I'll run my thoughts by you foks. Today, on my ride to work, I went over a pretty big bump, and jounced the car pretty good. Ground cabe poped off the battery. Car kept running, of course, but the tach went NUTS. Got it stoped, put the cable back on secure, and started it up again, but now tach is frozen on 1,800 rpms. Before I turned it off, it worked fine, cept it read about 3,000 rpms too high. From what I have found, I need to replace a circuit board behind the tach? Is this it, or is it something much simpler? Taking that section of dash off scares the crap out of me...

Every one I have ever dealt with was the circuit board going bad. It's not that hard getting the tach out. Just be patient and careful. But, let's see what the others have to say. Good luck.

More discovered info : with the car off, but the key in, if I activate any other electrical device, like the windows, the tach drops a bit, but once I stop using whatever device, the tach goes right back to 1,800.
