Son's 74 Vette has sat for several years, now it refuses to move. Jacked up the front and both wheels spin. Jacked up rear wheels and no go. I ran accross a thread where someone said the U-joints lock when the rear is jacked - is that accurate?
At this point I have removed both calipers and there IS a lot of rust...can someone suggest what I try next?
Is the parking brake on... or was it on long enough to be rusted solid? Remove the half shafts to the rear wheels... if still seized I bet the park brakes are stuck. If so, major unpleasantness awaits you.
I would make sure that the transmission is in neutral and parking brake cables are not under tension. Hook up a backhoe and take it for a drag.
Seriously, I would give the car a substantial coaxing to roll the back wheels. Brakes have been known to seize on the drums and sometimes need gentle persuasion to release.
Basically I sprayed PB Blast into the holes over and over and beat the heck out of the rotor near the bolts with a large hammer and it eventually came loose. The entire parking brake assembly was stuck and even when things were moving we had to get in there and loosen the star wheel etc.. to finally get the rotor off.
There were many things suggested to check in my thread so it may be worthwhile to check all those items.
Yes, the parking brake has been engaged the entire time it has been stored, glad to know the wheels should spin, and thinking of making a small sign that says "Much Unpleasantness Awaits You" before I dig in again.

But it should also read, "Much pleasure awaits when done!"
