Default Holley Vent Question

Just bought a Holley 750 from another member to replace my Mighty Demon 750. Problem is the low profile air cleaner will not close because it is hitting the upper vent tubes (demon didn't have a choke tower or the tubes). Can I pull these out or cut them down without any serious effects??

I have to use the low profile cleaner because it is a BB in a 78 with a RPM Airgap and hood clearance is not avaialbe for anything taller.

Yes to either option. But you do kind of have to wonder about why they are the height they are, don't you? If a float sticks or you have a needle and seat failure, the fuel will fill the bowl and flood the booster, which usually kills the engine or makes it run so poorly you are inclined to investigate. The only way for fuel to pour out of the carb is out the vent, which is considerably higher than the fuel bowl. Also, once the vent is blocked, the carb quickly dies since there is no atmospheric pressure to push fuel into the metering system and the carb just quits working. In a carb that is in good working order and is maintained, cutting down the vents shouldn't cause you any problems. Probably goes without saying that you need to have a vent whistle on both sides. Otherwise you'll have fuel sloshing out of the carb every time you hit a bump.
